No-TV-Week

Today is day one of No-TV-Week at our house. If our family agreed to turn the TV for seven days, and read instead, Regan gets all sorts of fun stuff from her school. For every 10 minutes of reading (or being read to) she gets a raffle ticket she can put in her choice of raffles next week. The prize that really got her, though, was that if you stuck to it and didn't watch any TV, she gets a couple throws at the dunk tank during her school field day. Sitting in that dunk tank, will be her her brand new principal, Mr. Phillips. Regan just starts giggling every time she thinks about him falling in to the water. I guess she really likes him, or really doesn't, depending on which way you look at it... Anyway, in preparation of the week, we made a list of alternate activities, and Regan made us all a sign which sits on the entertainment center:

I'm not too worried about the girls, since they actually don't watch very much during the day, but what will Jeff and I do in the evenings after the kids go to bed?! Talk?! :) Wish us luck. Thank heavens for DVR, I'm afraid I'd be a little less-supportive if it meant missing House and The Office...

Good luck with your no TV week! I am with you....my kids would be fine, it's Travis and I that would have a hard time. Imagine if we actually used that time to, gulp, talk!!

Yeah no problem you guys can do no tv for a week. It would be incredibly hard at our house if it was no electronic week. I'm okay without the TV it's the computer and blogging;) that I like. I love the littering quote because Barrett and Brandon used to call it glittering as well. Thanks for the blog site and good suggestion for books to read to the kids, I'll be checking it out someday soon.

wow, her school is a lot more specific about it. ours was just no tv, without any reading incentives. maybe we'll come up with our own incentives next year. and make jared do it. and us.... :)

but if 75% of the kids kept their no-tv pledge, calvin's principal will kiss a pig. calvin was very excited about that!

oh, and i agree with emi - it would be the no computer time that would be the WORST! :)

I love The Office and House!! I'll be sure to get double the enjoyment from watching them for you since you'll have to wait. Oh wait, I already watched House and it was great as usual. Wow, ain't that just down right mean of me to rub that in your face, j/k. It'll be worth the wait. My hat's off to you for even attempting it. Maybe we'll try it after the NBA playoffs are over. No chance I'd get Carlos to do it right now.
